The Village of Genoa, originally called Stony Station, was incorporated in 1868. Other community sites listed on the National Registry of Historic Places are the 600 block of downtown Main Street and the Old School Privy, which has an amusing and unique history. Old School Privy was built as a public bathroom with the same architectural style as the adjacent schoolhouse. The building was later converted to an incinerator and added to the NRHP in 1975. That’s one distinguished outhouse!

Popular Genoa attractions include Packer Creek Pottery, a handcrafted pottery store established in 1979, and Veterans Memorial Park, a 45-acre park with active use trails, sports fields, frisbee golf, and a half-pipe. There is also a separate swimming facility, the Genoa Quarry, which is roughly a quarter mile around and reaches up to 100 feet deep in certain parts. During its open season, the quarry is staffed by Red Cross-certified lifeguards and offers swimming lessons. 

The school district that serves the village is Genoa Area Local. The district has a 4-star rating in Achievement and Graduation from the Ohio Department of Education, meaning it exceeds state standards in those areas. The district is ranked within the top 37% of all Ohio districts for Niche 2025 Best Schools.
